Dorcas Ministry Group
A cornerstone of our mission and purpose is the heartfelt belief that there is a fundamental difference between even the most laudable philanthropy and work done in the name of Jesus and for the comfort of his children.
Dorcas
I am only a simple woman but use me somehow Lord.
All I have in my hand is this little needle --
no rod to part the seas, or break springs from rocks;
no lyre to soothe troubled spirits with psalms of praise;
nor yet a great sword to win glorious battles in Your name.
Only a needle Lord.
And a desire to help clothe these poor people who hover
in hopelessness on Joppa's street corners;
To enwrap them in the warmth of my loving concern.
Bless my efforts Lord -- meager though they be.
I know I am no leader;
I have no eloquent words to win hearts to You.
But I have this little needle dearest Lord,
and measure of skill -- and a very great love.
This service which you perform is not only supplying the need of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. (2 Corinthians 9:12)
The Dorcas Circle is a ministry group of some eight to ten women who like to knit or crochet. We knit or crochet afghans, hats, baby jackets, baby blankets, hats for premature babies, scarves, dish cloths, book marks, etc. In addition at least once a month we paint and decorate memory boxes which are sent to hospitals for the use of parents whose baby was still born or died within a few days of birth.
We have beginners, intermediate and advanced knitters and we are always willing to teach someone who wants to learn to knit or crochet. We talk, we sometimes have one of us read from an inspirational book, we knit or crochet, drink tea and we pray at the end of the afternoon before we go home. The amount we have produced in the two or three years we have been active is amazing.
Come and join us on Monday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. in the Choir Room at the church.
