Providence Children's Home Ministry Group
Each one should use whatever gifts he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10)
Providence Children's Home Ministry Group Mission Statement
We as a La Verne Heights Ministry Group, commit to grow together in Christ while serving and supporting the Providence Children's Home in Kenya, Africa, and to encourage and support members of La Verne Heights and others to commit themselves to work with the children of Providence Home.
Information and Scope of the Ministry Group.
The main purpose of the Providence Children's Home Ministry Group is to come alongside the Providence Children's Home (PCH) of Kenya, in support and caring for children of Africa whose parents have died as a result of AIDS. The PCH orphanage shares a fifteen-acre site with the Joram Githumbi private Christian Academy (elementary through high school). The orphaned children live in a residence in a homelike Christian environment with skilled and dedicated caregivers. The children attend the on-site school so that many endeavors we undertake benefit both the orphanage and the school. The observed positive effects of these ministries on the children's lives are both incredible and inspiring. Where appropriate, we seek to connect American resources in concert with those in Kenya to do what we can in addressing Kenya's parentless and often homeless children.
Study, Fellowship and Prayer Life as a Ministry Group.
Our meetings are structured to provide a worship/devotional time prior to beginning the working portion. Each meeting is closed with a prayer time that includes time for personal joys and concerns, PCH joys and concerns and other needs as appropriate. The meeting portion consists of discussions spotlighting the immediate and future needs of the Home, the children and the school and then planning courses of action to deal with the needs that are raised.
How You Can Get Involved.
If you are interested in this ministry opportunity you are welcome to attend any of our monthly meetings. The LVHPC Dorcas, Foundation Youth and Mission Ministry Groups as well as many individuals from our congregation and from others have contributed to PCH through on-going prayers and financial commitments to the Home. You are invited to attend the annual fund raising dinner for PCH held each Spring. You, as an individual, could also support the children of the Home through letter writing and financial contributions. You could join a summer short-term mission team in taking a trip to Kenya for a hands-on experience at the Providence Children's Home. It is never too late to get involved in one or more of the above activities; and please do not forget to continually pray for guidance for this ministry team and the children of Kenya.
Why get involved?
As of 2002 AIDS had left 12.1 million children in Africa homeless and parentless. 1.5 million of these children are in Kenya alone. These children are in desperate need of help. We seek to provide a homelike environment and educational facilities for many of these orphans. The Providence Children's Home is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We have made a commitment to operate this facility on a long-term basis.
We seek your participation and support in this endeavor. For more information visit www.providencekenya.org. The Providence Children's Home Ministry Group meets on the first Monday of the month at 7 PM.
